ree

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has taken a significant step towards environmental sustainability with the introduction of the Green Trade Strategy. Launched in June 2022, this initiative underscores CBP's commitment to combating climate change and fostering eco-friendly trade practices.

Four Pillars of the Green Trade Strategy

The CBP Green Trade Strategy revolves around four strategic goals:

1. Incentivize Green Trade: CBP aims to promote environmentally friendly trade practices and supply chains by offering facilitation benefits and incentives to businesses that adopt green initiatives.

2. Strengthen Environmental Enforcement: By enforcing environmental laws and taking action against bad actors, CBP seeks to drive meaningful changes in global trade practices, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

3. Accelerate Green Innovation: Investing in sustainable trade practices is key to this goal. CBP encourages both government and private industry to innovate and implement eco-friendly solutions within the trade sector.

4. Improve Climate Resilience and Resource Efficiency: CBP is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions associated with its operations and enhancing the sustainability of trade infrastructure. This includes initiatives to improve climate resilience and resource efficiency across the board.

By collaborating with various stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and international partners, CBP aims to make a lasting impact on global trade and environmental sustainability.
